Second set rejection
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010608
A phenomenon observed in transplantation immunology where a second graft from the same donor, or a donor sharing major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens, is rejected much more rapidly and vigorously than the first graft. This accelerated rejection is due to the presence of pre-existing memory T cells and antibodies generated during the initial exposure to the donor antigens. It demonstrates immunological memory.
