Histocompatibility

The property of tissues being immunologically tolerated when transplanted from a donor to a recipient. This compatibility depends on the similarity of specific cell surface proteins between the two individuals. The primary determinants are the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens, known as human leukocyte antigens (HLA) in humans.
