Graft-versus-host reaction

An immune response initiated by immunocompetent cells present in a transplanted graft against the tissues of the recipient host. This reaction is mediated primarily by donor T lymphocytes that recognize host antigens as foreign. It is the underlying immunological process that can lead to graft-versus-host disease.
