Host response

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005401

The reaction of a living system to the presence of a foreign material, such as a polymer implant or device. This response encompasses a sequence of events at the interface between the material and the biological tissue, including protein adsorption, inflammation, and cellular interactions. The specific host response is evaluated by histological and immunological methods to determine the biocompatibility of the material.
