Foreign body reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004593
The host's immunological and inflammatory response to the implantation of a non-living material, such as a polymer, into biological tissue. This reaction involves the recruitment of immune cells, leading to encapsulation of the implant by fibrous tissue. The severity of the reaction depends on the material's biocompatibility, surface properties, and the site of implantation.
