Host defense
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005400
The collective mechanisms by which an organism protects itself from infection by pathogens and from the development of diseases such as cancer. These defenses include both innate immunity, which provides immediate, non-specific protection, and adaptive immunity, which offers specific, long-lasting protection. Components of host defense include physical barriers, immune cells, and soluble factors like antibodies.
