Chemotaxis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012977
The directional movement of a motile cell or organism in response to a chemical concentration gradient. Cells move toward higher concentrations of a chemical attractant (positive chemotaxis) or away from a chemical repellent (negative chemotaxis). In the immune system, white blood cells such as neutrophils migrate toward sites of inflammation by following gradients of chemotactic factors like certain cytokines.
