Repellent

A substance that deters an organism from approaching or settling on a particular area or surface. Repellents act through olfactory, gustatory, or tactile stimuli, causing the organism to avoid the treated region without necessarily killing it. Common examples include insect repellents containing diethyltoluamide (DEET) or picaridin.
