Biostatic

Relating to a substance or agent that inhibits the growth and reproduction of living organisms, particularly microorganisms, without necessarily killing them. The effect is reversible, and microbial proliferation can resume once the agent is removed. This contrasts with a biocidal agent, which is lethal to organisms.
