Proliferation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009535
The rapid increase in the number of cells as a result of cell growth and division. In the context of toxicology and biology, it describes the multiplication of cells, which can be a normal process for tissue growth and repair or an abnormal process in diseases like cancer. Ecotoxicology studies how environmental contaminants affect the proliferation rates of cells or organisms within a population.
