Prolate trochoidal mass spectrometer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009534
A type of mass analyzer where ions travel in a prolate trochoidal path under the influence of crossed, uniform, static electric and magnetic fields. Ions are injected into the field region in a direction perpendicular to both the electric and magnetic fields. The resulting trajectory separates ions based on their mass-to-charge ratio, as their paths are focused onto a detector at different positions.
