Static field
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011326
A time-invariant electric or magnetic field used in mass spectrometry to separate ions based on their mass-to-charge ratio. This field provides a constant force on charged particles, allowing for their deflection and focusing. In magnetic sector mass spectrometers, a static magnetic field is employed for ion momentum analysis.
