Penning ion trap
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-008600
A type of ion trap that uses a strong static magnetic field and a weaker static electric field to confine ions. The magnetic field constrains ion motion radially, while the electric field provides axial confinement. This design is commonly found in Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometers.
