Kingdon trap
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006362
An electrostatic ion trap consisting of a thin central wire anode and a coaxial cylindrical cathode, which confines ions radially within a logarithmic electric potential. Ions are trapped by the electrostatic field without the need for magnetic or radio frequency fields. This device is a component in certain types of mass spectrometers, such as the orbitrap, where image current detection is used to measure the ions' frequencies.
