Kinin

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006363

A group of structurally related polypeptides, such as bradykinin and kallidin, that are formed in body tissues in response to injury or inflammation. These potent vasoactive peptides act locally to induce vasodilation, increase vascular permeability, and cause smooth muscle contraction. Kinins are also involved in the transmission of pain signals by stimulating sensory nerve endings at the site of inflammation.
