Vasodilation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012527
The widening of blood vessels, which results from the relaxation of the smooth muscle cells within the vessel walls. This process increases blood flow to specific tissues or organs and decreases systemic vascular resistance. It is a key mechanism in the regulation of blood pressure and body temperature.
