Vasodilator
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012528
A substance, whether endogenous or exogenous, that causes the relaxation of the smooth muscle cells within the walls of blood vessels, leading to their widening. This action increases blood flow and reduces vascular resistance. Many therapeutic drugs, such as nitrates and calcium channel blockers, function as vasodilators to treat conditions like hypertension and angina.
