Vasopressor

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012530

An agent or drug that induces vasoconstriction, the narrowing of blood vessels, which leads to an increase in blood pressure. These substances act on the smooth muscle of blood vessel walls, causing them to contract. Vasopressors, such as norepinephrine and epinephrine, are administered medically to treat dangerously low blood pressure (hypotension), particularly in cases of shock.
