Anaphylactic shock

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000565

A severe, life-threatening systemic allergic reaction that occurs rapidly after exposure to an allergen. It is characterized by a sudden drop in blood pressure and circulatory collapse, resulting from widespread vasodilation and increased vascular permeability triggered by a massive release of histamine and other mediators from mast cells and basophils. Anaphylactic shock requires immediate medical intervention, including the administration of epinephrine.
