Slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010942
A mixture of leukotrienes, primarily LTC4, LTD4, and LTE4, released from mast cells and other immune cells during anaphylactic reactions. These lipid mediators cause prolonged contraction of smooth muscles, particularly in the airways, and increase vascular permeability. The effects are significantly slower in onset and longer-lasting than those induced by histamine.
