Slow neutrons

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013563

Neutrons whose kinetic energy lies below a specified value, which varies with the application. In reactor physics the limit is frequently taken as 1 eV, and in activation analysis and dosimetry it is often the cadmium cut-off of about 0.5 eV. Thermal neutrons, in equilibrium with their surroundings at about 0.025 eV at room temperature, are a subset of slow neutrons.
