Effective cadmium cut-off energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003582
For a given irradiation setup, the neutron energy at which an ideal step-function absorber, opaque below and transparent above that energy, would give the same detector response as the real cadmium cover. It is a convention for separating thermal from epithermal neutrons in activation analysis and depends on cover thickness and geometry. For a cadmium cover about 1 mm thick the value is roughly 0.55 eV.
