Epithermal neutrons
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004041
Neutrons whose kinetic energy lies above that of thermal agitation but below the fast range, usually just above the thermal region, so they are not in thermal equilibrium with the surrounding medium. The limits are set by convention and differ between fields, and in activation analysis the lower limit is the cadmium cut-off near 0.5 eV. The epithermal flux per unit energy in a reactor varies roughly as 1/E.
