Neutron temperature

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007923

A concept used to describe the average kinetic energy of a population of neutrons in thermal equilibrium with their surroundings. It is expressed in units of temperature, typically Kelvin, and is related to the neutron's average kinetic energy by the Boltzmann constant. Thermal neutrons, for example, have energies comparable to the thermal energy of the medium they are in.
