Thermal column
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011932
A section of a nuclear reactor designed to extract a beam of thermal neutrons for experimental purposes. It consists of a large block of a moderating material, such as graphite, placed adjacent to the reactor core. This arrangement slows down fast neutrons to thermal energies, providing a high flux of low-energy neutrons.
