Cut off

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002801

The particle size at which the collection or retention efficiency of a sampler, filter, or separator reaches a stated value, often 50 percent, under defined test conditions. Particles on one side of that size are mostly retained and those on the other side mostly pass through. PM10 and PM2.5 sampling inlets are specified by cut-off diameters of 10 and 2.5 micrometres.
