Tertiary aerosol
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-011885
The aerosol that leaves the spray chamber and enters the atomizer or plasma in atomic spectrometry sample introduction, after the larger droplets of the primary aerosol made by the nebulizer have been removed by impaction and drainage. Its droplets are finer, less polydisperse and less turbulent than those of the primary aerosol, mostly below about 10 micrometres in diameter. Only a small fraction of the sample, typically a few percent with a pneumatic nebulizer, reaches the plasma in this form.
