Atomizer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000909
Any system that converts an analyte into atomic vapour, such as a flame, a graphite furnace, an inductively coupled plasma or a glow discharge. In atomic absorption spectrometry it provides the cloud of free atoms through which the measuring beam passes. It is distinct from a nebulizer, which only turns a liquid sample into an aerosol.
