Inflammation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005829

The localized response of living tissue to injury, infection, or irritation, characterized by redness, heat, swelling, and pain. This protective reaction involves the movement of fluid and leukocytes from the blood into the affected tissues to eliminate the source of injury and initiate the healing process. When this process occurs in the central nervous system, it is termed neuroinflammation.
