Inflammasome

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005828

A large, intracellular multiprotein complex that detects pathogenic microorganisms and sterile stressors, initiating an inflammatory response. Upon activation, the inflammasome oligomerizes and recruits pro-caspase-1, leading to its cleavage and activation. Activated caspase-1 then processes pro-inflammatory cytokines like pro-interleukin-1β (pro-IL-1β) and pro-IL-18 into their mature, active forms.
