Activated complex
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000172
A transient, high-energy molecular entity formed at the peak of the potential energy surface during a chemical reaction. It represents the transition state between reactants and products, where bonds are simultaneously breaking and forming. The activated complex cannot be isolated and its energy corresponds to the activation energy of the reaction.
