Activated state
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000174
A transient, high-energy configuration of atoms that exists at the maximum energy point along the reaction coordinate between reactants and products. This state, also known as the transition state, represents the point of highest potential energy that must be overcome for a reaction to proceed. Its energy difference from the reactants is the activation energy.
