Transition species
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012237
Any species that occurs between reactants and products during an elementary reaction, which includes the activated complex at the energy maximum but also other short-lived arrangements along the path. The name avoids confusion with the transition state proper, the configuration at the top of the energy barrier, a name that has also been applied loosely to these species.
