Single-step reaction
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010899
A reaction in which the reactants are converted directly into products via one transition state, with no intermediate formed along the way. Its energy profile along the reaction coordinate therefore shows a single maximum, the transition state, whereas a multistep reaction shows one maximum for each step with a valley for every intermediate between them. The reaction is an elementary reaction, and its rate law follows its molecularity.
