Activation energy
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000179
The minimum amount of energy that reactant molecules must possess to undergo a chemical reaction. It represents the energy barrier that must be overcome for reactants to transform into products, corresponding to the energy of the transition state relative to the reactants. This energy is typically expressed in joules per mole (J mol⁻¹) and is a key parameter in the Arrhenius equation, which describes the temperature dependence of reaction rates.
