Volume of activation
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012615
The change in volume that occurs when reactants form the transition state in a chemical reaction. It is derived from the pressure dependence of the reaction rate constant and provides insight into the structural changes during the activation process. A negative volume of activation indicates a more compact transition state compared to the reactants.
