Volume of distribution

A pharmacokinetic parameter that relates the total amount of drug in the body to the concentration of the drug in the plasma. It represents the apparent volume into which a drug distributes in the body to produce the same concentration as in the plasma. This value is expressed in liters or liters per kilogram.
