Extracellular volume
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004281
The total volume of fluid in a body that exists outside of the cells, comprising both the plasma and the interstitial fluid. It represents the internal environment that bathes all cells, facilitating the transport of nutrients, gases, and waste products. The extracellular volume is typically about 20% of total body weight, or approximately 14 liters in a 70 kg adult human.
