Volume of the stationary phase
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012617
The volume of the liquid stationary phase, or of an active solid or gel, inside a chromatographic column, with any inert solid support left out of the count. For a liquid coated on a support it is the liquid volume alone, so it is smaller than the volume of the packed bed. It appears in the retention factor k = K·Vs/Vm, where Vm is the mobile phase volume and K the distribution constant.
