Activation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000176

The process of increasing the reactivity or activity of a substance or system. In chemistry, this can refer to making a catalyst more effective, initiating a chemical reaction, or increasing the energy of molecules to overcome an energy barrier. For example, in electrochemistry, activation can refer to the process of making a passive metal surface active towards corrosion or a specific electrochemical reaction.
