Concentration-cell corrosion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002364
A type of electrochemical corrosion that occurs when two areas of a metal surface are exposed to different concentrations of the same electrolyte or different concentrations of oxygen. This difference creates an electrochemical cell, leading to a potential difference and subsequent corrosion in the area with lower concentration of the active species. Crevice corrosion is a common example.
