Contact corrosion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002478
Localized electrochemical corrosion that occurs when two dissimilar metals are in electrical contact and exposed to a common corrosive electrolyte. The more active metal in the galvanic couple corrodes preferentially, acting as the anode, while the more noble metal acts as the cathode. This phenomenon is also known as galvanic corrosion.
