Galvanic cell
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013117
An electrochemical cell that converts chemical energy from a spontaneous redox reaction into electrical energy. It consists of two different conductors serving as electrodes, each immersed in an electrolyte, and connected by a salt bridge or porous membrane. In contrast to an electrolytic cell, which consumes electrical energy to drive a non-spontaneous reaction, a galvanic cell generates a potential difference.
