Salt bridge
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-010486
A device used in electrochemical cells to connect two half-cells, allowing the flow of ions to maintain electrical neutrality. It consists of an inverted U-tube or porous disk filled with an electrolyte solution, such as potassium chloride or ammonium nitrate. This prevents charge buildup that would otherwise stop the reaction.
