Indifferent electrolyte
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-013188
A substance added to an electrochemical cell solution that does not participate in the electrode reactions but provides sufficient conductivity to minimize the ohmic potential drop. It maintains a relatively constant ionic strength within the solution. This type of electrolyte typically consists of a salt with ions that are not easily oxidized or reduced within the potential range of interest.
