Anode
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000629
The electrode of an electrochemical cell at which oxidation takes place, so electrons pass from the species being oxidised into the electrode. In a galvanic cell the anode is the negative terminal, and in an electrolytic cell it is the positive terminal. In both kinds of cell, electrons leave the anode through the external circuit and anions in the electrolyte migrate toward it.
