Anion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000609
An atom or group of atoms that has a net negative electric charge due to an excess of one or more electrons compared to its number of protons. Anions are formed when a neutral atom or molecule gains electrons, a process that can occur during chemical reactions or through ionization. In an electric field, anions migrate towards the positive electrode, which is called the anode.
