Positive ion
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-009291
An atom or molecule that has lost one or more electrons, resulting in a net positive electrical charge; also known as a cation. Positive ions are formed through processes like electron impact ionization in a mass spectrometer or by the dissociation of a salt in a solvent. The magnitude of the charge corresponds to the number of electrons lost from the neutral species.
