Moiety
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007463
A distinct part of a molecule that is often recognized as a functional group or a structural fragment. It retains its chemical identity and properties when considered within the larger molecular context. For instance, an ester moiety consists of a carbonyl group bonded to an oxygen atom, which is further bonded to an alkyl or aryl group.
