Carbonyl compounds

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001653

A class of organic molecules that contain a carbonyl group, which consists of a carbon atom joined to an oxygen atom by a double bond. This functional group is a component of many larger functional groups and defines several compound classes, including aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, and esters. The carbon-oxygen double bond length is approximately 1.2 ångströms.
